Description
The Standard 11 Surface Mining Induction provides training on the skills and knowledge required to meet the Queensland regulatory requirements for those aiming to work in open-cut coal mining operations in Queensland. The course will cover the following topics:
- General mining overview
- Legislation
- General safety
- Managing workplace hazards
- Risk management
- Isolation and tagging procedures
- Site communication equipment and systems
- Traffic and mobile equipment procedures
- Lifesaving first aid
- Local emergency and incident response
- Firefighting and fire prevention
- The environment
- The work process
Participants who achieve competency for the theory component of the course will receive a Statement of Completion and a partial completion Photo ID Card along with an On-Site Verification Workbook. This will allow you to enter the particular mine site and complete all site induction requirements and to work in a supervised situation and complete the On-Site Verification Workbook.
Objectives
Participants will need to successfully complete and submit the On-Site Verification Workbook back to SGS Australia Pty Ltd to be verified within six (6) months of completing the theory course.
Upon successful completion of the course requirements, a Photo ID Induction Card valid for five (5) years and a Statement of Attainment will be issued for:
- RIIWHS201D Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
- RIIERR205D Apply initial first aid
- RIIGOV201D Comply with site work processes/procedures
- RIIRIS201D Conduct local risk control
- RIICOM201D Communicate in the workplace
- RIIERR 302D Respond to local emergencies and incidents

The Standard 11 Surface Mining Induction is suitable for new and experienced mine workers.
NOTE: Each mine site may have its own induction requirements. Please check with the mine site you will be working at before enrolling in this course.
