
Description
TRG Hot Work (Cutting and Welding) at Mines and Petroleum Sites Awareness Training Course (Formerly MDG 25) minimises the risks to health and safety of people where cutting and welding activities are being carried out at mine and petroleum sites.
On completion of this training course, you will have an understanding of:
- Safe use and handling of oxygen fuel equipment
- Safe cylinder storage, transport and handling
- Electrical welding safety
- Power tool and grinder safety
- Identification of risks and hazards
- How to complete a Hot Work Permit
The course covers the following topics:
- Compliance documentation
- Welding Management Plan (WMP)
- Hazard identification, risk assessment and risk controls
- Fire and explosion
- Hazardous areas, wet areas, confined spaces and working at heights
- Welding underground in coal mines
- The welding environment
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Emergency preparedness
- Equipment inspections, storage, transportation and handling
Objectives
Participants who successfully complete both the written and practical course requirements will be issued a Certificate of Attendance and wallet card for:

Audience
This course is designed for personnel who are involved with the operation, supervision or inspection of cutting and welding at mine and petroleum sites.
Pre-Requisites
Language, literacy and numeracy skills are required at a level to read, complete, interpret and communicate workplace documentation relevant to the training.
Participants with a language, literacy and/or numeracy difficulty or other special needs should inform our training support staff prior to enrolling to discuss our support services if required.
Recertification
Each mine and petroleum site may have its own refresher period requirements. Please check with the site where you will be working.
