
Description
This course is designed to provide participants with refreshed and updated skills and knowledge required to enter and work in confined spaces in resources and infrastructure industries. It includes planning and preparing for entry, work and exiting confined spaces including working in accordance with an issued permit, Standby duties, gas monitoring and the issuing of permits.
The course covers the following topics:
- Legislation, standards and codes of practice
- Assessing, entering, working and exiting confined spaces
- Standby duties
- Signage
- Lock, tag out and isolation procedures
- Purging and ventilation
- Procedures, permits and risk assessment
- Equipment used in or near confined spaces
- Hazard analysis and controls
- Procedures for atmospheric monitoring
- Understanding and use of gas monitoring equipment
- Maintenance of gas monitoring equipment
- Use of ropes and knots
Entry Requirements:
Participants who take this course should have the physical ability to successfully complete practical tasks ranging from donning a confined spaces harness to climbing in and out of simulated confined spaces.
Participants must have successfully completed and hold a current Statement of Attainment for the required units of competency or their equivalents issued within the last 3 years. This evidence must be provided when making a booking request.

- RIIWHS202D - Enter and work in confined spaces
- RIIRIS201D - Conduct local risk control
- MSMPER200 - Work in accordance with an issued permit
- MSMWHS201 - Conduct hazard analysis
- MSMPER300 - Issue work permits
- MSMWHS217 - Gas test atmospheres
- MSMPER202 - Observe permit work

Audience
This course is suitable for those persons who hold current confined spaces competencies and require refresher training due to industry specific requirements. To discuss suitability, please contact our training support staff prior to enrolling.
NOTE: Each work site may have its own refresher period requirements. Please check with the work site you will be working at before enrolling in this course.
