Description
“Green Datacenter” is more than just using PDF files, replacing LED lights and buying “green” equipment. There are other things to consider:
- Adapt international standards, frameworks or good practices.
- Establish KPIs to yield realistic goals to focus on and as benchmarks for pre-determined goals. KPI is beneficial and key to business’s success
- Retrofit, re-arrange and modify facilities to improve efficient data centre design and operational practices and address energy efficiency opportunities
- Improve understanding of energy consumption within data centre, raise awareness and recommend energy efficiency best practices. Reputable studies revealed that nearly 50% of service outage in data centre were caused by human error. Human error is posing one of the biggest internal threat to server quality.

Objectives
Sustainable Energy Efficient Data-centres (SEED)
SEED is a SGS proprietary program, culminating years of research and expertise in data centre facility management. The SEED audit checklist references to industrial recognised best practices and covers four areas (build out & design, facilities infrastructure, ICT Infrastructure, operation management). SEED program is the best way for data centre managers to demonstrate their facilities and operation are benchmarked to world-class practices. The SEED audit checklist included the best practices stated in the following standards and guidelines:
- Green Data Centre Practices (by the Hong Kong Government Office of the Chief Information Officer)
- SS564 Singapore Standard for Green Data Centres - Energy and environmental management systems
- EU Code of Conduct
- ASHARE standards
- Industrial good practices
This course is the first and only comprehensive course to cover the SEED requirements. Participants will learn the detailed technical requirements and their scoring criteria. Pragmatic energy efficient strategies will be outlined in this workshop. The course contains sufficient examples and practical sharing that the participants are able to apply them right away in their facilities. All the practices are applicable to both in-house and colocation data centres.

BENEFITS:
The course is designed for individual who is planning to adopt the SEED certification program or who simply wants to know more about the most contemporary green data centre practices. Possible benefits of adopting SEED includes:
- Decrease energy consumption, operation cost & greenhouse gas emission (increase energy efficiency) and increase profit.
- Enhance the corporate social responsibility of the data centre.
- Encourage an energy management system to be established in existing datacenter in order to have a pragmatic and structured ways to manage energy usage.
- Allow an data centre to be more competitive in front of the sustainability-conscious customers.
- Have in place recognised Green Datacenter criteria for designing or expanding your Green Datacenter
Audience
- Data centre manager, engineer and operator
- Data centre consultant
- Companies and individuals who wish to become consultants in green data centre industry; or who wish to implement green data centre practices in their operation
- Individuals who wish to understand green data centre practices
