Description
The objective of this course is to provide learners who have an existing basic knowledge of, or experience in environmental management, with knowledge of the management systems approach and the requirements of ISO 14001:2015, and to provide a basis for those who wish to continue to complete CQI / IRCA certified EMS auditor training courses.
This course also provides learners with an overview of the purpose and requirements of ISO 14001:2015 as a tool for business improvement. However, this course does not address ISO 14001:2015 in detail.
PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
Before starting this course, learners are expected to have the following prior knowledge:
- management systems;
- understand the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle;
- knowledge of the concepts of environmental management and the relationship between an organisation’s activities, products and services and environmental impacts;
- commonly used environmental management terms and definitions, as given in ISO 14001:2015;
- the requirements of ISO 14001:2015.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- with reference to the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, explain the process-based EMS model for ISO 14001:2015;
- explain the terms and definitions used in ISO 14001:2015;
- discuss the benefits of structured environmental management;
- explain the specific environmental management-related requirements of ISO 14001:2015.
Learners will need to demonstrate acceptable performance in these areas to complete the course successfully.
